Yves Saint Laurent, commonly known as YSL has passed away yesterday. He was 71 years old and died following a long illness. YSL was one of a few fashion designers that really left their mark on the industry. He was born off of the cost of Algeria in 1936. He then moved to Paris in 1953 to further develop his passion for clothing design.

He first came to the fashion world’s attention when he was seventeen and studying in Paris. He won first prize in a dress design competition sponsored by the International Wool Secretariat. When he was only 21 he was appointed to the head of the House of Dior after Christion Dior’s passing. His great success however contributed to an even greater depression which ultimetly lead to him being a recluse. YSL had also publicy admitted that he was a homosexual in 1991 when he as 55.

Many celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker are making public statements about the fact that Yves Saint Laurent has died. He was a visionary for many women gowing up especially for shows like “Sex in the City”.

Yves Saint Laurent was widely considered the last of a generation that included Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and made Paris the fashion capital of the world. YSL has left his footprint in the fashion industry and for that he will be greatly missed.
